Criminals in the House of God. Criminals are commonly found in police cells, in the prisons, in courts, in the streets or generally in dark and unholy places. But you may be surprised to know that there are actually criminals in the house of God. The state of the church these days is very lamentable. God is going to clean His house and any unprofitable tree shall be uprooted. A certain pastor had his congregation weighed on the scale by an angel of God. Out of 2,900 people in the church only 80 were ready for heaven. It will be very sad if the trumpet sounds!

"For the time is come that judgement must begin at the House of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of God? And if the Righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?" (1 Peter 4:17,18). Many view the word Gospel as an ambiguous term...these Scriptures not only refer to the judgement of the ungodly, they actually provide the reader with information as to exactly who the ungodly are, and that which qualifies a person as godly. What verse 17 reveals is rather confronting when one looks deeper into the significance of its words, for what these two Scriptures present is no less than an insight into the purpose of election, and the inextricable connection between the essentiality of believing the Gospel-a completely unambiguous term-and salvation. These verses reveal the conclusive and irrevocable evidence that only Gospel believers are Righteous in God's eyes, that it is only they who are of the House of God.

The Blueprint A blueprint is a guide for making something. It is a design or pattern that can be followed. When we sit down to build something, we normally draw up a blueprint and then follow the design carefully. A blueprint helps you determine what to do. In this manual "The House of God" our goal is to discover God's blueprint for local churches and local communities of believers. We also share practical ways to build local churches according to God's blueprint. Our goal is not to present one set of "methods" and "techniques", but rather discover what God wants the local church to be. Each one of us will have to make our own journey with God as we develop our local congregations according to God's blueprint. Each one of us will have to discover our own expression of this blueprint in our local communities. Since God is a creative God, He has many ways and many expressions of His blueprint. The one common denominator is that we are all pursuing the same blueprint for each local church. The blueprint describes God's design. It is God's original intent. It highlights main characteristics. It describes key features. It points to important focus areas. When we follow His blueprint we know we are moving in the right direction and will eventually arrive at the right destination for our local churches. Your Ministry And God's Blueprint Regardless of what your ministry is inside or in relation to the local church, it is important that what you are doing, is aligned to God's blueprint for His people. As a pastor/Senior pastor, your responsibility is to ensure that the local church is growing and developing in all dimensions according to God's blueprint. As an itinerant evangelist, teacher, prophet or apostle whenever you minister to a congregation, your goal is to help impart and increase the congregation in some way according to God's design for the local church. Whether you serve as a youth pastor, worship leader, children's church, women's ministry, men's ministry, small groups, etc. you are working towards establishing God's blueprint in the lives of His people in that local church. Follow God's design closely and you will not go wrong!

The inauguration of Solomon’s temple in 2 Chronicles 5-7 is a prophetic picture of the greater reality seen in the book of Acts as the New Testament house of God, the church, is being built. Solomon’s temple is a model of everything the church is to be and do. There has never been a more glorious expensive building dedicated to any god of man than the Temple in Jerusalem built by the wealthiest and wisest king who ever lived and dedicated to the God of Israel. It took 173,000 men working seven years to build the greatest house ever built. The Son of David put into it immeasurable treasures. When it was dedicated all of Israel was there, especially the government officials. There was two weeks of continual feasting and sacrifices almost without number. In it was put the Ark of the Covenant amidst thousands of choir members and musical instruments. When finished the glory of God came down upon it, so much so that those there could not stand in the presence of the manifest glory. There was preaching by Solomon, who also led in the powerful praying of the promises of God. As glorious as this was, it was only a type of something more glorious - the House of God in the New Testament. The house that Jesus is building. A house is not a building made of physical materials; it is people. That house built by Solomon was a type of the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Everything in that temple and everything that happened at the dedication of that temple in 2 Chronicles 5-7 speaks of a greater reality in the New Testament Church. Everything! Solomon’s Temple is the Biblical pattern for the Church. There is so much to learn from this type that can be clearly seen in the book of Acts, once you know what to look for. The author takes us on a Scriptural tour of this ancient temple and shows us the fulfillment of every detail of that house of God in the New Testament. Surely the things written before are a picture of that which was to come, and these pictures are for our instruction and admonition. The modern church desperately needs what is found in the Bible about the house of God. We need to hear and heed what is given to us about the church from the inspired description of this ancient “house of God.” When Jesus as a child said, “I must be about My Father’s business,” He was talking about what He later would say as an adult master teacher, “I will build My church.” The house of God is His business and He has invited us to be co-laborers in the building of the greatest house that will ever be built which will last forever. Study the blueprint, follow the plan and let’s join Christ in building the house of God His way.

Meditate on these things . . . The discipline of meditating day and night in the Book of the Lord (Joshua 1; Psalm 1) is a costly art, hard won in any age--perhaps even more so in today's stressful times of multi-tasking ministry and cut-and-paste computing. First hand-written in black-and-red notebooks from scraps of paper, using only a King James Bible and a Strong's Concordance, The House of God records the spiritual exercise of a working pastor and itinerant preacher over eighteen months, the last six spent confined to hospital with injured legs. For pastors and students of the Gospel ministry, the book furnishes a three-year course for weekly private worship, complete with original hymns, select Bible readings, and intense devotional meditations on Paul's First Epistle to Timothy. The author prayerfully aims to nourish "the inner man of the heart" and to encourage the practice of Scripture meditation. May it prompt King Jesus' servants to heed their life and doctrine as people of God called to "the house of God, the Church of the living God, the ground and pillar of the truth."

“How should we live in this house of God? We know that the way a building is shaped also helps in determining the way those within it live and relate. We are indeed formed by what we form. Qualities such as integrity, hospitality, humanity and beauty in a place will enable its dwellers to live lives in which such qualities are evident. The way we understand who we are and how we live will be reflected in our places and vice versa. Our places become bearers of meaning and memory.” —From Chapter 1In Living in the House of God, Margaret Malone draws on her study of and research on the Rule of Saint Benedict to show the ways in which this ancient rule can illuminate modern life. The broad gamut of topics this book examines—from Benedictine life as sacrament to Augustine’s influence on Benedict to obedience and the art of listening, among others—is itself a witness to the generous flexibility of the Rule, as Benedict proposes a way of life that truly corresponds to the deepest needs of the whole of human nature.

2 Samuel 7 has always been a focal point in discussion about the Davidic covenant and its relationship to the exodus (or Sinai) covenant. This new rhetorical study of the speeches of Yahweh and David in 2 Samuel 7 examines the dynamics of the conversation between the two characters, a conversation essentially about houses and obligation. The reading proposes that talk of a Davidic dynasty is a diversionary strategy that Yahweh uses to deflect David's interest from a temple building project. It also suggests that the manner in which Yahweh presents the offer of dynasty conceals an empty offer behind the facade of a grandiose and unending lineage. The history of religions problem of a Davidic versus sinaitic covenant may be resolved by attending less to the facade and more to the undertones of Yahweh's offer.

In large parts of the Western world, institutional Christianity is becoming a thing of the past. Yet most contemporary theological discussion on the church still deals with technique and process. Gary Badcock here moves beyond that how-to approach to address the much more fundamental question of why there should exist a church at all. / The House Where God Lives makes the case for a constructive and explicitly theological understanding of the church as a problem of doctrine. Ecclesiology, Badcock argues, should keep company with the great creedal themes of the triune God and of human salvation. He begins by considering the place of ecclesiology in theology in general, and deals with the church as a mystery of faith. Surprising insights emerge both from the scriptures and from the Christian theological traditions on each of these accounts. He further examines the themes of community, proclamation, and sacrament. / Badcock?s conclusion is that, in order for the church in the West to be renewed in our time, it must escape the narrow confines of individualism that currently surround it, instead becoming reacquainted with the staggering claim that its fellowship, its teaching, its worship ? indeed, its very roots ? reach deep into God.
