Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2007 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Film und Fernsehen, Note: gut, Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Der Film „Hero“ wurde 2002 von Zhang Yimou gedreht. [...]

"The positive hero was defined by the Soviets as one who set an example for the reader's behavior. As early as 1860, the merits of this ideal model were a central issue in the war between literary imagination and ideological criticism that raged in Russia for a hundred years." "In The Positive Hero in Russian Literature, Rufus W. Mathewson, Jr., brings a period of Russian literature to life and demonstrates how the battles over the positive hero reappeared with dramatic clarity in the dissident literary movement that developed after Stalin's death. Mathewson argues that the true continuity between nineteenth- and twentieth-century Russian prose was to be found in this persistent conflict between contrary views of the real nature and proper uses of literature. This new edition of a widely acclaimed work, first published in 1958 and covering literary developments through 1946, includes chapters on Belinsky, Pasternak, Solzhenitsyn, and Sinyavsky." --Book Jacket.

From Villain to Hero explores the reception of Odysseus in philosophy from the Socratics to the Middle Platonists. She reveals the process whereby Odysseus became a model of wisdom for Socrates and his followers, for Cynics and Stoics, as well as for later Platonic thinkers, despite Homer's emphasis on his cunning and his portrayal in Attic tragedy as a villain.

In Quest of the Hero makes available for a new generation of readers two key works on hero myths: Otto Rank's Myth of the Birth of the Hero and the central section of Lord Raglan's The Hero. Amplifying these is Alan Dundes's fascinating contemporary inquiry, "The Hero Pattern and the Life of Jesus." Examined here are the patterns found in the lore surrounding historical or legendary figures like Gilgamesh, Moses, David, Oedipus, Odysseus, Perseus, Heracles, Aeneas, Romulus, Siegfried, Lohengrin, Arthur, and Buddha. Rank's monograph remains the classic application of Freudian theory to hero myths. In The Hero the noted English ethnologist Raglan singles out the myth-ritualist pattern in James Frazer's many-sided Golden Bough and applies that pattern to hero myths. Dundes, the eminent folklorist at the University of California at Berkeley, applies the theories of Rank, Raglan, and others to the case of Jesus. In his introduction to this selection from Rank, Raglan, and Dundes, Robert Segal, author of the major study of Joseph Campbell, charts the history of theorizing about hero myths and compares the approaches of Rank, Raglan, Dundes, and Campbell.
